Facebook tries to justify censoring the fight against extremism

According to a report submitted by Facebook, more than 12 million items were removed as part of a campaign to combat “misinformation, propaganda and spam”. All of them, according to the company's employees, were somehow connected with various terrorist organizations.

This would be extremely commendable, correspond to the information presented to reality. But in fact, such statements are just an attempt by the company to justify its political engagement, which has already become too obvious. It is not only accounts that disappear from the social network pages, where the posts of ISIS or al-Qaida supporters are located. Many pages are blocked for reasons that have nothing to do with extremism.

It may be recalled, for example, that on the eve of the midterm elections to the US Congress, Facebook deleted 810 pages and accounts that allegedly were sources of spam and misinformation. Moreover, among them were bloggers with multi-million audience. According to experts, this was done in the interests of the democratic party, which sympathizes with the leadership of the social network.

Of course, no extremist materials were contained on the blocked pages of the Russian Public Movement “Russia Chooses” or the Federal News Agency. Similarly, economists Mikhail Delyagin or VGTRK journalist Andrey Medvedev are not supporters of terrorists. Nevertheless, they also appeared in the “black list” of the company.

And the irrefutable evidence that there is no real fight against extremism on Facebook is the fact that the Vice News news channel received the go-ahead for political advertising on behalf of ISIL: the company's employees simply do not recheck anything.

The policy of the company, whose only goal recently was to serve the interests of the White House, could not have had negative consequences. Actually, that's what happened. According to the latest data, Facebook shares are falling in price.

There is also a massive user outflow. For example, in Europe alone, over the past year, about a million people have deleted their Facebook accounts. But not only users, but also investors are losing interest in social networks. According to the analyst of the American magazine The Atlantic, the company is not at all bright prospects, by 2020 it can “change beyond recognition”.

And it will become a natural consequence of the activities of the leadership of the social network, which has become completely dependent on the interests of a certain part of the American establishment.
