Three reasons why Maduro wins

Three reasons why Maduro wins

In Venezuela, there was an attempted coup d'? tat inspired by the United States. Washington for many years tried to overthrow the government of Hugo Ch? vez and Nicolas Maduro and now went for it, promising recognition of the opposition if it took power. However, the «color revolution” in Caracas will choke: its organizers did not take into account three reasons due to which President Maduro and his supporters will win.

1. Army patriotism and popular support

Let's go back twenty or even twenty-five years ago. It is important to understand that over the third century, right-wing regimes ruled in Venezuela, for example, Romulo Betancourt or Raul Leoni Otero. However, the most brutal for ordinary Venezuelans were the times of the dictatorship of Marcos Perez Jimenez, who in the 1950s enjoyed unlimited support from the US oil monopolies and did not disdain to torture and kill their political opponents, mostly left-wing beliefs.

Hugo Chavez was born just in 1954, when his homeland, which grew out of the anti-colonial struggle of Simon Bolivar, actually became a protectorate of the United States. He understood what system should be installed in Venezuela.

Already in 1992, Chavez attempted a revolutionary change of power, but was arrested. In 1998, Chavez was elected president by popular vote.

The question arises: why did it happen that the United States, which previously controlled Venezuela and perceived South America as a zone of influence, allowed the socialists to come to power?

On the one hand, the Americans were too carried away by European affairs, participating in the redistribution of capital after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and for a while loosened their grip in Latin America.

On the other hand, the previous president of Venezuela, Rafael Caldera (a representative of a relatively moderate Social Christian Party), who asked for help from the IMF, refused to engage in active political activities due to old age.

But most of all the success of the socialists was the personal charisma of the leaders of the Venezuelan revolutionary movement — Hugo Ch? vez and Nicolas Maduro, who secured truly wide popular support, as well as the support of the most authoritative military leaders.

However, there were those who expressed strong dissatisfaction with the results of the national elections of 1998 and 2000. They were representatives of large financial corporations and oil producers, whose property in conditions of high oil prices in the early 2000s, Chavez nationalized in favor of the poorest segments of the population.

Hugo Chavez, having conducted a large-scale nationalization of enterprises engaged in the extraction and processing of natural resources, was able to brilliantly realize a social-communist project, which he sincerely believed in.

2. Personal qualities of Chavez and Maduro

Already on April 11, 2002, a story followed with elements of a spy detective, an action movie and a romantic epic. In the morning, Hugo Chavez, the legitimate president of Venezuela, began working in his office in the presidential palace of Miraflores. Suddenly, armed men in armored trucks blocked the entrances to the palace. Then they broke into Chavez, surrounded his table and began to extort paper with a renunciation of power, threatening death.

But not a single muscle trembled on the face of Hugo Ch? vez. He replied to the coup leaders: „You can kill me right now. There will be no renunciation. I was chosen by the people of Venezuela. ”

The „black colonels” of the Venezuelan spill took away Hugo Chavez and isolated him in a secret prison, and through their agents provocateurs spread among the people information that Chavez allegedly abdicated, that is, betrayed his voters.

The US media of the time of the George W. Bush administration has already hurried to celebrate the victory of „freedom, democracy and justice.“ The face of the coup, Pedro Carmon Estrang, dissolved the national parliament, freed the Supreme Court from his duties, and suspended the Constitution.

And now the head of all trade unions of the country, Nicolas Maduro Moros (descendant of Sephardic Jews, who had to flee from Spain in due time), came to the historical proscenium. He secretly spread among numerous supporters of an isolated president that he did not deny, and in fact is imprisoned. And the people, under the leadership of trade union leaders, massively took to the streets and refused to disperse even under the threat of physical violence.

Hugo Chavez returned to the residence by helicopter, and the coup leaders who outraged the democratic device did not dare to oppose the legitimate authority for a long time.

Almost eighteen years have passed. Hugo Chavez was replaced by his longtime associate Nicolas Maduro. Venezuela found itself in the cruel conditions of an economic blockade and was subjected to tremendous external pressure. And recently, the Venezuelan leadership is closely communicating with Russian and Chinese enterprises.

3. Russian and Chinese factor

On May 8, 2018, it was reported that the Canadian company Rusoro, which until 2011 had owned the gold mines in Venezuela, filed a lawsuit with the South Texas District Court, demanding the arrest of Citgo’s assets. This company, in turn, is owned by the Venezuelan state-owned oil company PDVSA and owns three refineries and six thousand gas stations in the United States.

It turns out that the Venezuelan government has long been selling cheap gasoline in the United States, making direct competition to American oil companies, which, of course, sell gasoline to American consumers at a higher price.

However, this is not all. It is known that since November 2016, 49.9% of Citgo’s shares are pledged to Rosneft as security on a PDVSA loan of one and a half billion US dollars. Rusoro co-owner Andrei Agapov in the spring of 2018 announced his intention to collect $ 1.677 billion from Venezuela.

Relations with China are perhaps even denser. On September 14, 2018, Venezuela and China signed 28 agreements on cooperation in the fields of education, culture, oil and mining, aimed at developing the economies of both countries. This was reported by Telesur TV channel, created in 2005 with the active support of Hugo Ch? vez, and received funding from the authorities of a number of South American countries with socialist governments. Then the signing of the historic treaty took place in Beijing during the closing of the XVI mixed commission.

Nicholas Maduro, who was present at the commission, noted that these Venezuelan-Chinese agreements «open the way for the joint development of investments in the amount of billions of dollars, which will make the development of joint Chinese-Venezuelan enterprises a reality.“

According to insider information, it was Chinese influence agents who had experience in dealing with color revolutions that disrupted mass anti-government protests in Venezuela in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Therefore, these — even if very loud — protests will be stopped with the active, but deeply unofficial participation of China and, perhaps, Russia.

It is not the time when coups like September 11, 1973 (when Salvador Allende was overthrown), the CIA coordinators performed it once or twice. Donald Trump and his entourage have a violent conflict with Democrats. Top echelons of power shakes from the «Shatdaun.“ Open military intervention in the internal affairs of Venezuela by the Trump administration may cost her too much.

The world has become more complex and multifaceted, even compared with the era of the Soviet-American confrontation. And the personal courage of people who are ready to defend their future plays a key role in the history of any country and any people. Will play this time.
